Cellutopia

CellUtopia is a collaborative project in progress developed n the frame of the PhD research by Nefeli Dimitriadi (Department ATI, University of Paris 8) and Stavroula Zoi (Athens School of Fine Arts). CellUtopia exploits in an artistic way audiovisual elements that have been created by the artist and then have been chosen by the inhabitants of the In-Between as elements of their real but also “utopic” virtual world. Every house of the virtual neighborhood is connected to three AV elements pictures, animations and videos) that in a way describe their inhabitants virtual “utopic” world, and each of these elements is categorized to one of four categories: Artificial Environment / Human situation / Nature / Idea. The dynamic relation of these elements evolves in an autonomous way with the use of the Cellular Automata technique. The user can choose 4 houses and when he clicks on them, the AV elements related to each house will appear on the screen. The user can click on the Cellular Automata button, composed by four options, each option favoring one of the four categories: Artificial Environment / Nature / Idea / Human. When the Automate reaches a state of stability, then the description of the "alive" elements appears on the screen.
